USGS Full Report

Primary Mining: Gold
Secondary Mining: Silver

Blackhawk Mine is located South East of Las Vegas, Nevada. Nearest town is Nelson, Nevada. Primary mining in the area included: gold, silver, lead, copper and zinc.

We expected to see more of an interior to this mine because of the large ore hopper in place, but the portal directly behind the hopper only appeared to be a prospect with a depth of less than 50 feet.  There is a collar shaft nearby which may have a deeper interior, but the collar of this shaft was loose making it too unsafe to rappel.   Attempts to rappel into the collar shaft could result in serious injury by falling rocks.

We now have confirmation that this and nearby mines are privately owned.  There is a segment among our population who would like to see all unpaved areas closed.  Those people make no distinction between a family in their SUV or those on dirt bikes and UTV's using these trails as their own personal race track.  A large percentage of those people are also anti-gun.  Let's not give them photo evidence.  Police your brass and shells.

I have not seen this area posted and was unintentionally trespassing.  As with many posted areas, the signs come down almost as fast as they go up. This site has always been about preserving our local history.  If you are in the area,  please respect property rights and keep driving.  What you see in the gallery below is all there is to see.
