In order to participate in this program, there are minimal requirements:
Attended more than one event
Own a vehicle capable of aiding others offroad
Hold and maintain a General Mobile Radio License.  (FCC requires a fee, but no testing)
Own a radio programmed to our group simplex and local GMRS repeater frequencies
Make yourself and contact information available to others in this reciprocal group

To save time and to minimize the broadcast of personal information over open radio frequencies, please provide the following information which will be  shared with others in this reciprocal group:

Name

General Mobile Radio Service call sign
Primary phone number
Secondary contact name and phone number
Vehicle:  Year, Make, Model, Engine,  Trim
Any other personal information that you feel may be needed in an emergency situation such as medications.


Communication is key for this to work and because searching for someone is of great importance, forgetting to notify that you've returned safely to pavement is not an accepted excuse.  To demonstrate this importance,  we will adopt a "one and done" policy.  If you simply forget to communicate that you've safely returned to pavement,  the safety of this group program will no longer be available to you.  It only takes a few seconds to text, "Back on pavement.", so no excuses.


Participating in this reciprocal program does not mean you have to sit near a phone or  radio waiting for something bad to happen.  I've served as backup for many throughout the years and it's hardly noticed.  I go about my daily routine and listen for the "all clear" radio contact or text message.  I would only give it more thought if someone is late which hasn't happened.


There are many places in the desert and mountains without cell or radio service.  If you can't get to higher ground for  proper signal, help would still be available, but with a two hour time delay.  Prior to your excursion, we'll need to know where you'll be and the latest you expect to return to pavement.  Here's an example of how that would work:


"We'll be around Christmas Mine and expect to be back on pavement no later than 5PM."

If no contact is received by 5PM,  we wait an hour just in case you're running late.

If no contact is received within the next hour,  we attempt to contact you by text, phone, or radio.

At the end of that hour,  we prepare to search in your previously stated exploration area.


It is important that we have enough information to begin a search if needed.  Identifying a nearby mine may be enough to narrow a search.  If you say you'll be near Christmas Mine, we know to enter from 161 (Goodsprings Rd.) and head south until we spot your vehicle or signal.  If you say you're headed to Goodsprings for the day, that's not enough information and we'd have no choice but to standby for more information.


If you don't have a dedicated GPS device,  learn how to retrieve your coordinates from your smart phone before you need them.  The easiest way is to download the Google Maps (Not Google Earth)  application to your phone.  If you are able to communicate by phone or radio, this communication may be brief.  The first thing you should state is the type of emergency (medical or vehicle) followed by your coordinates.  This site uses the most common format of coordinates, DMS (degree, minute, second).  Example:


"I have a disabled vehicle at:   35° 57' 7.51" N  115° 27' 26.09" W   "

For clarity and certainty, numbers should be read individually. 

Coordinates read:  Three-Five degrees. Five-seven minutes.  Seven. Point five-one seconds.  North.

One-one-five degrees.  Two-seven minutes.  Two-six.  Point zero-nine seconds.  West


Submit the email form on the right or send a text with details to me or someone else on the reciprocal list prior to your excursion.  Emails will only go to me. I receive email alerts from home or mobile and will relay information to others on the reciprocal list if needed.


Voluntary use of this program is with the understanding that participants assume all risks and releases VegasUnderworld.com and its associates from all liability for all property damage, illness, injury, and/or death resulting from voluntary participation.  All participants are responsible for their own vehicle parts and all associated costs of their own repairs.

This safety program has been organized for those willing and able to come to the reciprocal aide of others in the event of vehicle disability.   This program is not intended to replace 911 emergency services.  The intent of this program is to make sure you aren't left stranded and hopefully to prevent bad situations from becoming worse.  In a true emergency, you should always attempt to contact 911 first.  If that option is unavailable and we are, we will forward all pertinent information to the appropriate agency.
